Job Title: Artillery/Turret Mechanic

Position Summary

The Artillery/Turret Mechanic disassembles, repairs, rebuilds, modifies and reassembles a variety of turret components for combat vehicles such as race rings, travel locks, turret platforms, seats, seat pedestals, handles, bracket protective screens; close brush scavenger systems with regulators, pressure switch manifold assembly, and valves such as pressure, check, shutoff, and slaves; solenoid switches, ammunition storage racks, ammunition boxes, seat pedestal guards and other similar items. Checks components when dissembling for serviceability. Repairs and/ or straightens out dents of metal items that are bent. Modifies race ring by drilling holes in pre-determined location and also wall boxes and lids for installation of dividers. Checks cracks or breaks in metal parts with magna-flux machine. Installs ammunition boxes on turret platform, modifies as required such as moving brackets or handles to specified location or from one side to the other, etc.

Essential Functions

  • Determines need for and furnishes data to welder or machine shop for use in fabricating a jig or template to be used in drilling holes, etc. Applies a preservative coat of paint on race ring.

  • Corrects deficiencies on inspection write-ups for items repaired.

  • Uses a variety of power tools, drill presses, measuring equipment and all hand tools common to the trade.

  • Meets all performance standards. Will ensure that all duties will be performed safely and in a productive manner. Will adhere to company policies as they apply.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be capable of lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling very heavy parts and loads. Must be able to climb, crawl, stoop, bend, squat, and reach as required to work on equipment.

  • Maintains tools and equipment, and cleans work areas to maintain a safe work environment. Be able to work outside in inclement weather conditions when necessary.

  • Ensure that all tasks are performed safely and meet Government/Army standards when applicable.

  • Wearing safety items of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) e.g. gloves, safety shoes, protective eyewear, hearing protection, and other items such as aprons or outerwear as appropriate.

  • Employee is required to maintain a valid state-issued Driver’s license and applicable Government/Army license.

  • Perform other duties as required to support the mission and contractual requirements.

General Requirements

  • Work will require lifting; stooping; climbing; prolonged standing; prolonged sitting; and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to the weather. Employee use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required in certain areas. Such PPE includes but is not limited to, head, foot, hand, torso, respiratory, vision and hearing protective devices.

  • Must comply with OSHA, EPA, Fire Regulations and published Company work rules.

  • Excellent written and oral communications skills; proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Excellent attention to detail.

  • Ability to complete and prioritize tasks on multiple concurrent projects within given timeframes.

  • Work well in a team environment and able to work with a diverse group of people.

Education and Citizenship Requirements

  • Candidate must be a U.S. citizen and ideally have completed prerequisite training for Army Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) 91G2O/3O – Fire Control Repairer or have equivalent training with 4-6 years of maintenance experience in the grade of E-5 to E-6.

  • Candidate must possess a working knowledge of the appropriate tools necessary to perform maintenance tasks as well as have knowledge of standardized maintenance regulations – specifically DA Pam 750-8, Functional User’s Manual for The Army Maintenance Management System (TAMMS).

  • Required: 4-6 years of experience w/High School Diploma or GED certificate.

  • Desirable: Certification from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) or equivalent organization is highly desirable.

  • Required: US nationality/citizenship and residence, with verbal and written fluency in English.
