Aerotek Instrumentation and Controls Engineer in Savannah, Georgia

Position Description:

The Instrumentation & Controls Engineer is responsible for maintaining the functionality of the instrumentation and analyzer systems within the existing LNG terminal and new Liquefaction Trains. This will include working with technicians and other engineers on commissioning, testing, maintaining and replacement of instrumentation, online analyzers, as well involving some PLC programming.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Involved in commissioning checkouts to ensure new instrumentation packages meet the project specifications

  • Responsible for maintaining the facility SmartPlant Instrumentation database and loop drawings

  • Troubleshoot and problem-solve online analyzer, instrumentation and control system issues

  • Develop procedures to test and calibrate safety critical instruments, loops and alarms

  • Provide technical guidance for the development of maintenance procedures associated with new instrumentation and analyzer systems

  • Provide technical assistance in maintaining Cause & Effects, control schemes, and alarm databases Interfacewith vendors/suppliers to determine instrumentation system solutions and applications

Position Requirements:

Minimum requirements :


  • B.S. in Engineering or equivalent experience

Experience / specific knowledge:

  • Must respond to and address call outs and emergencies after regular business hours

  • Understanding of SIL (Safety Integrity Level) analysis and development of testing procedures based on recommended frequencies

  • Experience with maintaining an instrument database (SPI preferred), as well as interpreting/modifying instrument loop sheets

  • Experience with Allen Bradley PLC Control Systems/Logic preferred

  • Experience with Guided Wave Technologies, ABB/Siemens Analyzers, Custody Transfer Metering (Coriolis and Ultrasonic)

  • 7 years' experience in troubleshooting various instrumentation issues in an operating plant environment, preferably LNG, pipeline or petro-chemical facility

Certifications, licenses, registrations:

  • Must possess a valid driver's license and meet company insurability requirements

  • Must meet the criteria to maintain a Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC) as required by USCG/DHS regulations

  • May be required to achieve and maintain certifications as required to perform job duties

Competencies, skills, and abilities:

  • Basic computer skills (MS Office, various operating systems, and other company software)

  • Must have proven interpersonal skills and strong communications skills (verbal and written) in order to be able to interact effectively and professionally with all levels of customers

  • Ability to work with a team, take direction from supervisors, keep required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules

  • Ability to speak and understand English

Physical demands:

  • Must be able to withstand extreme weather conditions

  • Climb to and work from elevated platforms, ladders and walkways Mustbe able to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions, climb vertical access ladders and stairwells

Working conditions:

May work in low-lit areas

  • Must be able to withstand extreme weather conditions

  • Must be able to frequently climb to and work from elevated platforms, ladders, and walkways, etc.

  • Depending upon the location and workload, travel will be required, beavailable for shift work when applicable

Preferred education, experience, certifications, competencies, skills, and abilities:

Above the minimum requirements; not required but advantageous in this position:

  • Prefer experience at an LNG facility, pipeline, or petrochemical facility

  • Prefer experience in writing instrument and loop testing procedures in an operating environment

  • Prefer experience with maintaining and troubleshooting Siemens Analyzer systems
